AAH-I at the ASARECA Conference

Top agricultural scientists, researchers, NGO representatives, farmers, business people and policy makers from ten countries in East and Central Africa converged in Entebbe on December 14 for a three day conference to deliberate on critical issues affecting food security and come up with science-based, social and policy solutions to address these concerns.

AAH-I at the ASARECA ConferenceThe conference whose theme is “Feeding our region in the 21st century”, which ends today was organized by the Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA), the meeting will also be the first general assembly, of the association and was opened by Uganda Minister of Agriculture, animal industry and fisheries, Hon. Tress Bucyanayandi.
Prof. Calestous Juma, a renowned Kenyan scientist and currently a Faculty Chair at the Harvard Kennedy School delivered the keynote address titled “Agricultural Science, Technology, and Innovation: Feeding Eastern and Central Africa in the 21st Century” to about 350 top delegates including over 10 ministers in charge of agriculture and an equal number of director generals of agricultural research institutes and representatives of leading NGOs in the region. AAH-I was represented at the meeting by its Executive Director, Dr. Caroline Kisia. Also present was the Dr. Wajja-Musukwe, Country Director for AAH-I Uganda and other staff.

AAH-I was also one of the organizations that exhibited at the Conference displaying publications and posters depicting its Food and Income security projects in South Sudan and Northern Uganda. The stand which was strategically at a high traffic corridor received many guests who came to learn about our work throughout the two days.
